The First Teaser for the Live-Action Remake of Moana

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Disney has unveiled the first official teaser for the live-action remake of Moana. Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as Maui from the animated version, and newcomer Catherine Laga‘aia appears as Moana. Production on the Moana remake was confirmed two springs ago and moved into filming last fall.
Moana, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, was the fifty-sixth film from Walt Disney Animation Studios and told a story set in an ancient, fantastical world, focusing on the daughter of a tribe chief. In the live-action version, John Tui plays Moana’s father, Frankie Adams plays Moana’s mother, and Rena Owen appears as Gramma Tala.
In recent years, Disney has turned Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Dumbo, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Snow White into live-action films—though the latest entries have brought the studio little more than trouble.
Thomas Kail, known for In the Heights, has directed the live-action Moana, while Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller are the screenwriters. Johnson and Lin-Manuel Miranda serve as producers on the project.
The live-action Moana will be released on 10 July 2026.
